CarlisleIT products to ensure connectivity across millions of miles while exploring Mars
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL, August 4, 2020 – Carlisle Interconnect Technologies (CIT), one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of high-performance wire and cable, is proud to announce that NASA will utilize its products during its 2020 Red Planet mission. CIT components will help optimize communication among NASA’s Perseverance Rover, helicopter, and base command.
The mission, targeted to launch in late July or early August of this year, will continue the search for signs that Mars may have been habitable in the ancient past as well as signs of past microbial life. The new rover for this mission includes a drill that can collect core samples of the most promising rocks and soils and set them aside in a "cache" on the surface of Mars. A future mission could potentially return these samples to Earth. The mission also provides opportunities to gather knowledge and demonstrate technologies that address the challenges of future human expeditions to Mars.
CIT’s next-generation interconnect solutions are designed to meet the technical demands of space flight and enhance frequency to support a dependable communication link between NASA and the Perseverance Rover and helicopter.
CIT has worked with the space program for more than 50 years, from more recent Red Planet missions to NASA’s Apollo 11 program. The company offers a range of mission-critical products, including cables, cable assemblies, connectors, and EMI Shielding. CIT has a long history of working with space program engineers to bring their innovative ideas and applications to life, supporting groundbreaking research work and ensuring every component of every mission is a success.
